GEORGIA GRANDPARENT VISITATION RIGHTS
by Amy Butler-Zapatka
In 2012, the legislature passed a law making Georgia a friendlier state for grandparents who seek judicially mandated visitation with their grandchild or grandchildren.
It is possible for grandparents to seek visitation with their grandchild or grandchildren through our court system, as long as the grandchild does not live with both parents. To obtain visitation, grandparents must provide clear and convincing evidence to the court that it is reasonably likely the grandchild would be harmed without such regular visits. And, that such visits are in the best interest of the grandchild.
If you are a grandparent interested in obtaining visitation rights with your grandchild, we may be able to help. To learn more give our firm a call and setup an appointment to discuss your particular circumstances and potential options that may be available under this newer legislation.
